About WASA Lahore

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Lahore is a semi-autonomous body under the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and Punjab Local Government, responsible for providing potable water, sewerage disposal, and drainage services across the Lahore metropolitan area and parts of Sheikhupura district.

WASA Lahore operates one of the largest water supply systems in South Asia — managing over 500 tube-wells and pumping stations, a vast underground distribution network, and sewage treatment plants. The agency supplies water to approximately 11 million residents of Lahore, along with commercial and industrial consumers.

Lahore relies entirely on groundwater extracted from underground aquifers below the city. This dependence makes monitoring groundwater levels and preventing overextraction critical. WASA Lahore has been working with government and international development partners on water conservation and infrastructure modernization projects.

WASA bills are issued bimonthly (every two months) for most domestic consumers. Bills include water supply charges, sewerage charges, and applicable taxes. WASA has been progressively digitizing its billing systems to allow online bill checking.

Water Conservation Tips for Lahore

  • Fix leaks immediately: A single dripping tap can waste 15–20 litres per day. Fix washers and valve packing promptly.
  • Low-flow fixtures: Install low-flow taps, showerheads, and dual-flush toilets (3/6 litre). These are widely available in Lahore markets at reasonable prices.
  • Rainwater harvesting: The monsoon season (July–September) brings significant rainfall to Lahore. Collecting rooftop rainwater in storage tanks for garden irrigation and toilet flushing can meaningfully reduce WASA groundwater demand.
  • Wash cars with buckets: A hose pipe can use 150–300 litres per car wash. A single bucket uses approximately 15–20 litres — ten times more efficient.
