KWSB Karachi Water Bill Check
Karachi Water and Sewerage Board — the water authority for Pakistan's largest city.
KWSB Official WebsiteAbout KWSB
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) is the government authority responsible for supplying water and managing sewerage in Karachi — a megacity of approximately 25 million people, making it one of the largest cities in the world. KWSB operates under the Government of Sindh.
Karachi's water supply comes from two main sources: the Indus River at Hub and Keenjhar Lake (via Hub Canal and Gharo systems), and Hub Dam. Water is treated at KWSB's water treatment plants before distribution through the city's network of mains and pipelines.
Karachi faces significant and well-documented water shortages due to a combination of infrastructure deficits, rapid population growth, water supply theft, and aging distribution networks. Despite improvements, many areas of Karachi depend on water tankers to supplement official KWSB supply.
KWSB bills are issued every two months (bimonthly) for most domestic consumers. Bill amounts depend on your connection size, tariff category (domestic/commercial/industrial), and metered consumption where meters are installed.
KWSB Bill Charges
| Charge Type | Notes |
|---|---|
| Water Supply Tariff | Based on connection size (½ inch, ¾ inch, 1 inch, etc.) or metered consumption |
| Sewerage Charge | Percentage of water charge (typically 50–100%) |
| Garbage Collection | Solid waste surcharge added to water bill in some areas |
| Arrears | Unpaid previous bills carry forward with surcharge |
| Late Surcharge | 10% per annum on overdue amounts |
Water Conservation in Karachi
- Store water properly: Many Karachi households have underground sumps and rooftop tanks. Ensure tanks are covered to prevent evaporation, mosquito breeding, and contamination.
- Fix KWSB meter leaks: Report meter leaks or unauthorized connections to KWSB immediately. Unchecked leaks can add thousands to your bill and waste precious treated water.
- Use tanker water wisely: If you supplement with tanker water, buy only what you need. Tanker water in Karachi is often significantly more expensive per litre than KWSB tariffs.
- RO water recycling: Reverse osmosis (RO) water purifiers reject 50–70% of input water as wastewater. Connect the reject line to a bucket for reuse in cleaning or garden watering.
