Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) is Pakistan's second gas distribution company, responsible for supplying natural gas across Sindh and Balochistan provinces. Like SNGPL in the north, SSGC traces its origins to the Sui Gas field discovery in 1952, from which it draws the "Sui" in its name.
SSGC was incorporated in 1954 and has grown to serve over 3 million consumers across a diverse service area ranging from the megacity of Karachi with its millions of residents and thousands of factories, to the coastal fishing towns of Makran, the industrial areas of Hyderabad, and the provincial capital of Quetta in Balochistan.
SSGC manages one of the most complex gas distribution networks in South Asia — starting from the Sui field in central Balochistan, gas travels hundreds of kilometres through high-pressure trunk lines managed by the Sui Southern transmission system before being distributed through regional networks to individual consumers. The company also receives gas from offshore fields in the Arabian Sea and, increasingly, from the re-gasified LNG (RLNG) terminal at Port Qasim near Karachi.
Karachi — Pakistan's commercial capital and home to approximately 25 million people — is SSGC's largest consumer cluster by a wide margin. The city's millions of domestic consumers, thousands of restaurants, commercial establishments, and large industrial zones all depend on SSGC's gas supply for cooking, heating, manufacturing, and power generation.
SSGC is regulated by OGRA (Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority), which sets the company's allowed revenue, distribution tariffs, and quality of service standards.

SSGC Gas Tariff Slabs 2025
SSGC follows the same OGRA-mandated tariff structure as SNGPL, since national gas tariffs are determined uniformly. Key domestic tariff slabs:
| Monthly Consumption (MMBTU) | Rate/MMBTU (PKR) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 0 – 0.08 MMBTU | ~300–400 | Protected/lifeline consumers |
| 0.08 – 0.25 MMBTU | ~600–900 | Low use domestic |
| 0.25 – 1.0 MMBTU | ~1,100–1,800 | Average cooking/heating |
| 1.0 – 2.0 MMBTU | ~2,000–2,800 | High consumption |
| Above 2.0 MMBTU | 3,500+ | Very high use / geyser-heavy |
| Commercial | OGRA determined | Restaurants, shops, etc. |
| Industrial | OGRA determined | Factories and large plants |
* Always check your actual bill for the exact tariff applied to your connection. Rates are updated periodically by OGRA.
SSGC Bill Charges Explained
Here is a plain-English breakdown of every charge on your SSGC gas bill:
Gas Consumption Charges
Calculated based on your SSGC meter reading: (Current Reading − Previous Reading) × applicable slab rate. Your meter measures in cubic feet (CF) or cubic meters (CM), which SSGC converts to MMBTU for billing purposes using a standard calorific value factor.
Fixed Distribution Charge
A monthly flat infrastructure maintenance fee charged to all connected consumers regardless of gas usage. Covers the cost of maintaining the pipeline from the main distribution line to your meter.
GST 17–18%
General Sales Tax levied on gas charges and deposited with FBR. Applies to both consumption charges and fixed charges, creating a compound effect on total bill amounts.
Sindh Sales Tax (SST)
Since Karachi and Sindh consumers are served by SSGC, the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) may levy a provincial Sindh Sales Tax on certain categories of gas services. This appears as a separate line item for Sindh consumers.
GIDC (Gas Infrastructure Development Cess)
Same as SNGPL — a federal levy for gas infrastructure financing. Appears on all SSGC consumer bills.
Meter Rent
Small monthly charge for SSGC meter ownership (typically PKR 20–50 for domestic consumers).
Late Payment Surcharge
10% per annum on overdue amounts. In Karachi, multiple payment options are available 24/7 to help consumers avoid this charge.

How to Reduce Your SSGC Gas Bill in Karachi & Sindh
Karachi and Sindh consumers use gas primarily for cooking and water heating. Here are region-specific tips to reduce your SSGC bill:
- Solar water heating (Karachi): Karachi gets approximately 2,600–2,800 hours of sunshine per year. A good solar water heater will eliminate your geyser gas costs for at least 9–10 months of the year, typically saving PKR 500–2,000/month on your SSGC bill depending on family size.
- Cooking efficiency: Use pot lids when cooking — a covered pot reaches boiling temperature around 30% faster, reducing gas consumption. Match burner size to pot size; a large burner under a small pot wastes a lot of gas around the sides.
- One-pot cooking: Sindhi cuisine (biryani, dal, salan) is naturally suited to one-pot cooking. Cooking all components in one large pot at once rather than multiple small burners simultaneously is more gas-efficient, especially in large Pakistani family kitchens.
- Check your SSGC meter regularly: Write down your meter reading at the start and end of each month. Your consumption (in cubic feet) should not significantly exceed what you expect from your cooking and heating habits. Unusual spikes may indicate a gas leak, a faulty meter, or an incorrect estimated reading.
- Keep burners clean: Clogged gas burner holes cause incomplete combustion (orange/yellow flame instead of blue), wasting gas. Clean burners regularly with a pin or thin wire for maximum efficiency.
- Insulate your geyser and pipes: Hot water pipes lose heat before it reaches your bathroom. Insulating both the geyser tank and the hot water pipes with foam insulation available in hardware shops reduces gas consumption by preventing heat loss.
