The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) is one of Pakistan's largest electricity distribution companies, responsible for delivering power to the country's second-largest city and its surrounding areas. Established in 1998 following the restructuring of WAPDA (Water and Power Development Authority), LESCO now operates as an independent DISCO under PEPCO's administrative umbrella and is regulated by NEPRA.
LESCO serves the districts of Lahore, Sheikhupura, and Nankana Sahib — a combined urban and suburban area that includes the historic city of Lahore with its massive commercial, industrial, and residential consumer base. With over 5 million registered consumers, LESCO is one of the highest-revenue DISCOs in Pakistan due to the dense population and industrial activity in Lahore.
The company manages an extensive distribution network including hundreds of grid stations, thousands of transformers, and thousands of kilometres of high-tension and low-tension lines. LESCO purchases power from the national grid (NTDC) and is working toward reducing its line losses, which have historically been a challenge in dense urban areas with a mix of formal and informal settlements.
Lahore being a major industrial hub, LESCO serves a very large number of industrial consumers (both small industries and large factories), commercial establishments (markets, shopping malls, restaurants), and millions of domestic households ranging from small low-income homes to large residential colonies.
Where to Find Your LESCO Reference Number
LESCO uses a 10-digit Consumer ID (Reference Number). Here is how to find it:
- 1Look at the upper portion of your LESCO electricity bill. Find the box labeled "Consumer No." or "Ref. No."
- 2It is a 10-digit number. Example:
1234567890. Note that LESCO's length differs from IESCO (14 digits). Always check the label. - 3Do not use the old Account Number if you have an older bill — LESCO has migrated all consumers to a new 10-digit system.
- 4Go to lesco.gov.pk, navigate to Bill Inquiry, enter the number, and view your bill.

Understanding All Charges on Your LESCO Bill
Like all Pakistani DISCOs, LESCO bills include several charges beyond the basic energy cost. Here is a full breakdown:
Energy Charges
The base cost of electricity consumed, calculated by multiplying your units used by the applicable tariff slab rate. If you cross a slab boundary, the excess units are billed at the higher rate.
Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA)
A variable monthly charge/credit reflecting the actual fuel cost of electricity generation. Approved by NEPRA each month. Can significantly raise bills during periods of high global fuel prices or when expensive furnace oil plants are dispatched.
General Sales Tax (GST)
17–18% GST is levied on electricity charges as per the Sales Tax Act. LESCO collects this on behalf of FBR and deposits it into the government treasury. You will see this clearly itemized on your bill.
Withholding Tax / Income Tax
Collected at source from electricity bills, particularly on heavy consumers. Non-filers of income tax returns pay a higher rate. Filing your tax return (even if no tax is owed) can reduce this burden.
Fixed Charges
A monthly fixed amount charged regardless of consumption. This covers the infrastructure cost of maintaining your electricity connection — poles, transformers, and the distribution network.
PTV Fee & Electricity Duty
PKR 35/month PTV licence fee plus a small provincial Electricity Duty are included on every bill.

Tips to Reduce Your LESCO Bill in Lahore
Lahore summers are intense, and air conditioning accounts for the biggest share of household electricity bills. Here are Lahore-specific tips to reduce your consumption:
- Use ceiling fans instead of AC: A ceiling fan uses only 70W while an AC uses 1,500–2,000W. Run a fan alongside your AC and set the thermostat 2–3°C higher — you will feel just as comfortable.
- Tree shading: Planting trees on the south and west facing sides of your home can reduce indoor temperatures by 3–5°C, cutting AC hours significantly.
- Insulate your ceiling: Heat enters homes primarily through the roof. A layer of insulation in the attic or a white-painted roof can slash summer cooling costs by up to 25%.
- Night-time cooling: Lahore nights in spring and autumn are cool. Open windows at night to cool the house naturally and avoid using AC altogether.
- Inverter AC: Inverter ACs use 30–50% less electricity than conventional fixed-speed ACs. The extra upfront cost is usually recovered within 1–2 summers through savings on your LESCO bill.
- Solar water heater: Replace your electric geyser with a solar water heater. Lahore gets ample sunlight even in winter months. This alone can save 50–100 units per month in households with frequent hot water use.
